Finding
your own sense of self in true indie style can be a challenging experience for
some. Shopping, getting dressed, and then looking into a mirror but not seeing
the real you over time can really start to break your spirit. When you
purchased that really cute dress that was right on trend for the season
according to all the latest fashion magazines, not one of them mentioned that
while you’re considering your body type, your skin complexion and personality
are style determining factors as well. English writer Quentin Crisp said "Fashion
is what you adopt when you don't know who you are." I don’t know exactly
what he meant by that but this is what I make of it; when you don’t know your
true self you create walls as a way to hide behind. Women hide behind fashion. Just
like when we were little girls, we wanted to play in mama’s clothes, shoes and
make up every chance we got. It was fun but it was also an escape from reality.
We were pretending to be something we weren’t and fashion just encouraged us.
Don’t get me wrong, it was really fun for me too, I loved it but many of us
have never stopped playing dress up. Today some women are still playing dress
up and hiding behind their clothes. So if my theory is correct and “Fashion is
what you adopt when you don’t know who you are” I want to help women to stop hiding
behind fashion, wasting precious time and money on trends that don’t allow you
to see the real you. I want to help women to connect their Style and Spirit so
that your outer appearance reflects your spirit allowing you to dress in your true
indie style, using fashion as a way to express your true authentic self and not
cover up who you really are on the inside.
‘Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear:
Forget your people and your father's house. The king is enthralled by your
beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.” Psalms 45:10&11
Finding
your own sense of self in true indie style means being comfortable with who you
are, realizing your unique style and being confident with being you. Every woman is uniquely beautiful; fashion doesn’t
determine your beauty and style. They are determined by the spirit of the
unique, individual woman. Your beauty and style are independent and rests on
the God inspired character inside of you. I want you to be able to look inside
you and embrace the unique beauty that is within. You have to change the way
you see you. And I want you to get to a place where you can see that your beauty
is a God-given inner beauty and style reflected by the color of your skin, your
body shape, even your personality traits, gift and talents. When you can see
that beautiful God made woman in the mirror you will find your true indie
style.
